Martin Shepherd has been writing poetry since 1993 when his first poem was published in the local newspaper and accepted for entry into a nationwide poetry competition held by Princeton University. He energized the spoken word poetry scene in Cincinnati Ohio in 2003 when he began hosting an event called De La Sol at the Greenwich Tavern near the University of Cincinnati in 2003. Thereafter he performed regularly at spoken word events in Columbus, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Jacksonville, Florida.
Apart from being a gifted poet, Martin is also an accomplished lawyer. His experience in the field encompasses the areas of trial practice, real estate, commercial contracts and construction law.
